2017 Boundary Waters


Troop 75’s High Adventure trip for 2017 will be to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) in Ely, Minnesota.  We are using the same outfitter that the troop used last time in 2006 – Boundary Waters Outfitters.  We have secured two BWCA Permits for the dates listed below.  That means that we can take two crews or 18 people.

Trip Details:

Trip dates: July 29 – Aug 5 (One week after returning from summer camp)
Approximate cost per person $550 + money for two lunches and dinners on travel days $50 Deposit required to reserve position.

Requirements:

  • Scouts need to be 13 by August 1.
  • Scouts must have earned the First Class rank
  • Scouts must have earned the canoeing merit badge.  Can be earned at Summer Camp.  
  • Everyone going must have passed the BSA swimmers test
  • Everyone must have completed High Adventure medical form parts A-D

It is strongly recommended that all crew members participate in two training outings where we will practice paddling and portaging with canoes.  One at a local lake like Blackwell F.P. the other is the May Canoe trip on the Wisconsin River.

Trip Itinerary:

Leave early Saturday morning 7/29/2017.  Drive 9 hours to Ely MN.  Eat Lunch on the road. Check in at the outfitters late afternoon. Eat dinner in Ely Saturday night.  Spend the night at the outfitters.
 
Sunday 7/30/2017: pack gear at outfitters and drive to BWCA Entry Point #24,  Fall Lake State Park

Paddle Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Take out at Entry Point #24 Friday afternoon.  Drive back to outfitters to unpack and shower before heading into Ely for Dinner.  Spend Friday night at the outfitters.
 
Saturday 8/5/2017: leave early to drive home.  Eat breakfast and lunch on the road.  Should arrive back late afternoon.
