Our First Day at Camp

Good evening,

This is our daily update from summer camp.

This morning we drove out to camp and arrived about 2 in the afternoon. We took a camp tour, group photo, and set up camp. After that, we then proceeded to eat dinner, attend closing flags, and then proceed back to our campsite for a quick break before an opening campfire (I was apart from the troop for a SPL orientation). It is now 10:45 at night and scouts are going to sleep for our very early wake up time of 6:15 tomorrow morning.

Sorry for the lack of photos today, there was a ton of things going on at camp! I should be able to get many more tomorrow.

Also a thank you to my mother (Joyce Counihan) and Mr. Tsouchlos for a few of the photos below.

Today was our first full day of camp. Waking up at 6:15 this morning, we talked over a few camp procedures, and then attended breakfast and flags. From there we went off to our merit badges. After merit badges, we continued to eat lunch and complete more badges. After those badges, we had dinner and closing flags. The scouts then went off to have some free time, but I had a Senior Patrol Leader meeting to attend. Personally, I only have about 5 Troop 75 Scouts in my merit badges all day, so I was unable to get good photos of our scouts at merit badges. The majority of the photos today were from meal times. You will notice this email is being sent a bit earlier than yesterday as I now realize I can not send emails from our campsite. (I am sending this from camp HQ, a building with WiFi.) We are planning to go to bed at about 10:30 tonight, and you should expect my next update at about this time tomorrow.

Today was our third day at summer camp. We had the same schedule as yesterday, but I was able to get more photos of it. Scouts are all feeling a bit homesick, but they are progressing well on their merit badges. There was a root beer social at the cantina tonight and that was really interesting (photos below). I am sorry this update is so short, there is not much new going on here at camp. Tomorrow we will be waking up at 6:45 for a similar agenda from today.

Today was the halfway point of our camping adventure. Scouts have grown acclimated to their schedules and they are starting to be able to complete their merit badges. The only things different from the past two days was our after evening activities. Some scouts tie-died shirts (I couldn’t take photos because my phone would be soaked in die). The full agenda for the day is in the photos below. Many scouts (including myself) are exhausted from the hard work we have been putting in this week and are excited to complete our badges. We all have been sure to stay hydrated and clean throughout our stay at camp to avoid this extreme heat. Everyone is doing fine and we are excited to see how the week will wrap up!

I can not believe our time at camp is almost over! We are wrapping up our merit badges and making preparations for the drive home. Luckily for us, today was pleasant weather as the storms near you did not make it out to us. It’s going to be hot tomorrow, but our troop is staying safe and hydrated and the heat should not be a concern. We are on track to completing all our requirements here at camp by tomorrow night. I took as many photos today as I could, I am sorry if I missed somebody!

Today was our last day of camp. All scouts (besides myself yet) have arrive safely at home. Once we woke up this morning, we packed up immediately and loaded into the trailer. Scouts went to breakfast and flags and merit badges while the trailer was towed out to the front of camp. After we ate dinner, the troop departed for Illinois. I stayed at camp, along with Fionn and Mr. Pianetto for flags and our closing campfire. Troop 75 won many awards, euchre, the pool award, and the game of clue were all won by our troop.

Better photos will be posted on the troop website in a few days. There was no signal in camp so all my photos are a bit low quality.

If anyone is wondering what merit badges you got, please email me at SPL@napervilletroop75.org

I am not going to be at the meeting Tuesday so I will pass out papers from camp in 2 weeks.

That’s going to be it for tonight, so I hope you all enjoyed my update throughout the week!
